The National School of Health (ENS) is the oldest Spanish institution dedicated to research and training in public health and health administration. Created in 1924, with a Royal Decree published on December 12 of that year, at the end of this year it celebrates its centenary. It belongs to the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) since 1986, the year of creation of the ISCIII through the General Health Law. Throughout its history, the ENS has had 17 directors, with Dr. Gustavo Pittaluga as the first responsible. The current director of the School is Dr. Iñaki Imaz Iglesia.
The mission of the National School of Health is to contribute to the development and improvement of the National Health System (SNS) through the development of training, research and scientific advice programs in various areas of knowledge of public health and health administration. In addition, the School acts as a meeting place and a forum for discussion for public health professionals and health administration.
Among the activities planned to commemorate the centenary, the ISCIII will organize a meeting on December 12 and 13, 2024, coinciding with the date of creation of the School 100 years ago. The event will be attended by authorities, researchers, teachers and students of the School. In addition, a commemorative logo of the centenary has been created, and during 2025 it is planned to carry out new activities related to the 100th anniversary of the School.
